Event Details

The French-Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in partnership with Ashurst, is delighted to invite you to its 'Transport Industry Series: Smart City x Mobility - How can the emergence of the Smart City help change the way we move in Melbourne?'. This exciting event will take place at Ashurst in Melbourne on Monday 30 May from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

As many fast-growing cities, Melbourne and Melburnians are devoting a growing share of their resources to mobility. Despite Covid, mobility levels, as well as congestion, are back to previous levels. Rising energy costs will increase the burden on car-dependent dwellings. The challenges are huge to avoid falling into a congestion and energy cost trap. This calls for innovative solutions to be implemented.

A growing trend in recent years has been the emergence of the Smart City, a city where data are collected and used in order to improve city life. Data allows managing assets, resources, and services more efficiently, in many areas: energy, crime & public safety, health, environment… In mobility too, Smart Cities can optimise access to scarce resources, be it road space, energy, time, funding… It is thus timely to look at how the transition to a Smart City could help solve the mobility challenges that lie ahead of us.

In this Transport Industry Series, we will explore the potential of the Smart City to transform the way we move around Melbourne, by hearing insights from key stakeholders coming from various backgrounds and perspectives:

  • Justin Hanney, Chief Executive Officer, City of Melbourne, will provide the perspective of the City of Melbourne on the potential of data and information and communication technologies (ICT) to improve mobility conditions in Victoria.
  • Julien Dehornoy, Chief Executive Officer, Keolis Downer - Yarra Trams, will share international insights and demonstrate with examples how the smart use of data can improve the experience of public transport users around the world.
  • Cole Casper, Head of Design, VISEO Asia, will share his views on how data can make the use of resources more efficient in mobility.
  • Ainsley Simpson, Chief Executive Officer, Infrastructure Sustainability Council, will share the benefits of the Smart City in improving the sustainability of our cities.
